Ten years ago the Udagawa area in Shibuya was called "The area with the most vinyl record shops in the world". There were many record shops there and lots of DJs and B-boys used to come to buy records. Gradually the times changed and records were replaced with CDs and DVDs. As records lost popularity many record shops closed. But against the odds a few vinyl shops still survive in Udagawa today.
HMV record shop is one of them. This store has two stories and you can find all genres of music inside.
If you are lucky, you might be able to watch a show, meet a Japanese idol or shake hands with a rock 'n roll band. Special events tend to take place on weekends, but weekdays sometimes feature events too.
The hip hop and R&B store, Manhattan Records, also has to be checked out (see picture below).
Many famous hip hop artists have visited this store.
If you wanna check out electronic equipment, there are electronic stores in between the record shops.
I hope you will enjoy a lot of music in nostalgic Udagawa!
